SDGs and COVID-19

This challenge invites you to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by looking at the current and ongoing change in the monitoring indicators of the UN SDGs using Earth observation/remote sensing and global Earth system model-derived analysis products.

Quakecom

Summary

We, as a Millenial Solution Team, produced a project called Quakecom, using radio frequencies, various sensors and satellite to enable disaster victims to quickly detect damage after disaster and post-disaster. Because after the disaster, people lose their lives because of the severity of the disaster, not because the necessary help is not reached on time.

How We Addressed This Challenge

During the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in our project, we addressed the problems that may arise during a disaster in terms of quickly resolving and preventing chaos.

How We Developed This Project

While humanity do not have the ability to prevent disasters in our world, we started by thinking about what problems will occur if a disaster occurs in the event of a pandemic. We determined that the failure to detect the damaged structures immediately after disasters caused great delays in search and rescue efforts by talking to the rescue teams. On top of that, we learned from US sources that in the USA this hurricane will begin on June 1, an activity that is expected to be 140% higher than normal. To solve all these problems, we developed a system solution that is connected to a microprocessor and transfers data with ham radio frequencies. The fact that our team consists of people with multidisciplinary work areas has helped us a lot.

Our Quakecom project has developed 11th Sustainable Cities and Communities 11.5 out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Our goal is reaching the disaster victim as quickly as possible. Therefore search and rescue teams would reach higher numbers of victims. In the event of a disaster, the majority of casualties occur due to the long post-disaster recovery period. We have turned to the goal of improving emergency work, considering the impact of any disaster in this pandemic period on the speed of spreading the Covid-19 case. By transmitting the most accurate data to rescue teams, we will have improved the post-disaster process by shortening search time and minimizing human interaction.  Our system will consist of main system devices and support devices. The apartments will have a main device and support device package that is conveniently positioned according to the local type of disaster. By positioning support devices in apartments, it will transmit information about the number of lives within the home to the main device. The main device will constantly keep the information in its memory, and if a disaster occurs, the latest current data will be transmitted to the main center. The transmission system will be provided by satellite and radio frequencies.
