Our project is dealing with SDG 15 (Life on Land), especially with Target 15.5 (Take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt the loss of biodiversity and, by 2020, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species) and Indicator 15.5.1 (Red List Index).
Our team were inspired by beauty of biodiversity of Kazakhstan. Such rare animals like snow leopards are in need to be heard and protected.
The situation with the new coronavirus has shown that the problem of animals disappearing from their habitats depends directly on the destructive impact of humans on nature, which forces animals to hide from us.
We used ArcGIS in order to work with maps. We surfed Internet for reporst of rare animals that marked as endangered by IUCN Red List. Then, we created a GeoJson file, in which all the data were recorded, and imported it to our ArcGis website.
Now, anyone from governments to citiziens can use or platform to see beatiful animals and so be inspired to protect them from poaching and be informed about them in their local area.
Biologists can use our map and add some layers like population density or daily temperature to understand reported locations and predict future places where rare animals can be found so that they will investigate them with ease.
