With the challenge of analyzing the impact of the UN SDG goals for Covid-19 and informing the public, we developed the idea of a game that mixes action and fun in an adventure trying to solve the most affected SDGs during the pandemic period, while along the way, various information (about the coronavirus and the SDGs) are exposed that the player must absorb so that he can use (in and out of the game) and the game goes on. And so the proposal fits the theme in an educational, informative and very attractive way for the general public, but mainly for children and teenagers because they are the ones who, today and in the future, will put the ideas into practice.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations members in 2015, gives a shared peace and prosperity plan for people from all over the world now and in the future. However, because of the pandemic context a big party of society could notice the importance of developing the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives (SDG), thanks to the perception of the fails in basic sanitation providing, poverty increase, and others around all the world. The great part of the population noticed that we need to find a way to minimize this problem uniting forces from all humanity.
Because of it, to raise awareness and because of the group interest about the SDG (since we were already part of a study project about this subject) we used programs like Unreal Engine 4 and Adobe Premiere Pro we developed the game “NASA Agent - The SDG Mission” and created the NASA agent Steve. His missions are to help the population working side by side with the SDGs, for this he will use a special dress that enables him to work outside without risks. Steve’s challenges, which are made to join sustainability and technology in daily life (applicable practices will be explained during all phases), will be complicated by the choices that must be made between being sustainable or no after receiving from Jim Bridenstine some data from NASA, ESA, JAXA, CSA, Google Tools, and Telescope. The scientist will communicate with the player using a special helmet. Concluding this explanation, Steve was invited because of his frequent sustainable thoughts and actions and also your use of technology to help the local community.
With the time stipulated in each phase, we test how the player works under pressure, he can choose the option of not being sustainable to complete his stage more quickly or being sustainable and earning points. At the end of the game, there is also the possibility for the player to help research institutions that aim to monitor the impacts of the Covid-19, a link will appear to him to learn more about NASA, the United Nations Organization and its data available on the website about the SDGs, in addition to a sustainable consumption guide. One of our biggest difficulties during development, in addition to creating the prototype, was finding the data on the platforms, we did not find specific data, but we managed to adapt the game dynamically, for example, in the first phase, the player will have access to GSMAP , we will seek to bring new technology to each stage, so that players can learn not only about the 17 SDGs but also about NASA, inspiring the promotion of more sustainable people who can apply their learning in real life and inspiring perhaps new ones scientists and researchers, increasing their curiosity about the available data.
