SDGs and COVID-19

This challenge invites you to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by looking at the current and ongoing change in the monitoring indicators of the UN SDGs using Earth observation/remote sensing and global Earth system model-derived analysis products.

Caeli by South Hummingbirds

Summary

Caeli is an app to assist the population to surpass high pollution index and reduce Covid-19 contamination, merging information about both problems in an interactive and dynamic way, recommending prevention ways to disease spreading and pollution reduction, building a more sensible society and therefore with a better life quality.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project induces people to take more care about pollution and Covid-19 spreading, due to the lack of dynamics apps with easy usability. Our goal is to make people conscious about the risk of high pollution and it's relation to Covid-19, passively building a better life quality society.

How We Developed This Project

Our project impacts by presenting to people merged information about Covid-19 and pollution risk based on geographic location. People who suffer from this are the most impacted directly, including fragile immunity and advanced age people.

This project has the opportunity to present information with a focus on the Covid-19 and pollution factor as relevant data to be shown in this period of looking for more information.

We use open data sources from NASA, WHO, research institutions from other countries. NASA's open data was used primarily for the acquisition of air quality and map imaging, while WHO was the source of Covid-19. Our team focused on primarily building a mockup app on PowerPoint, hyperlinking slides, making it look like a functional app,and documented in our paper details about our project, which can be found here.

For organizing everything together and make every team members work to the same objective, we opt to use Google Slides as our scratch notebook, this way we can work at the same time, consult what the teammate is working on, and help each other.

Data & Resources

We used NASA open Data mainly for the air quality management and map usage. We also used the WHO data for Covid-19 data. Besides the open data, the team also research in news channel (BBC, Deutsche Welle, GauchaZH), institutions papers (World Economic Forum, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, University of Science and Technology of China, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and John Hopkins University & Medicine).
