SDGs and COVID-19

This challenge invites you to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by looking at the current and ongoing change in the monitoring indicators of the UN SDGs using Earth observation/remote sensing and global Earth system model-derived analysis products.

Space for hope

Summary

We are a B2B2C sourcing and information platform that rewards sustainable habits though cash or cashless Benefits for oneself or the most vulnerable. Our goal is to measure and track the economic, social and environmental impacts of COVID-19 based on Data. The reason for our Impact Model is understanding the Benefit as a common Value, not exclusive to the organisation but it also has to distribute value among consumers, workers, the community and why not help rehape the New Economy.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We have analyzed the impact of COVID-19 from a social, environmental and economical perspective, and particularly focusing on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by looking at the current and ongoing change in the monitoring indicators of the UN SDGs using NASA's Earth observations, Global Open Data from national statistical offices, ministries, national mapping agencies and global Earth system model-derived analysis products.

Based on advanced analytics, equations in differences, and mathematic algorithms we have (1) modelled uncertainty quantification to infer COVID-19 transitions between infectious states, (2) applied Loyalty Program Liabilities and Point Values to set a smart token that allows to convert cash or actions to benefits and rewards, (3) set the basis to generate a new Economy, more inclusive and that allows to track Social Impact.

The key to succeed in reaping the economy is people's engagement and committment jointly with indicators that are easy to timely track and visualize. Our deliverable consists of a platform that Connects People, Data and Social Impact. How does it work? A citizen or Advocate for Sustainability enrols in the platform and is motivated and empowered to change habits towards more sustainable ones. Changes in behavior are rewarded with Hope Coins that can be exchanged for Benefits either for oneself or to help Others. Collective changes of behavior towards Sustainability have an impact on SDGs, the Economy and help mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. This can be visualized through a Dashboard developed with Google DataStudio.

How We Developed This Project

For the elaboration of our project we focused on the needs and difficulties that countries face when they undergo a global pandemic. To solve this problem we have used the data provided by NASA, Jaxa and reliable Open Data from recognized institutions such as World Bank, WHO, Universities. With these data we have found two key conclusions:

1.- Pollution decreased globally as an indirect consequence of Covid-19. Air quality index has improved by 6%.

2.- A very significant reduction in GDP in the world due to the economic impact caused. Estimated [-6-0%] GDP Growth.

Our solution looks to solves these two main problems though the use of Tokens (Hope Coins) to reward users for carrying out actions in favor of caring for the environment such as recycling, e-mobility and green energy. These tokens will be used to help countries with limited resources, giving the user the option to choose where they will go, for example, it may be to an NGO in Africa seeking financing for the construction of hospitals. Our long-term forecast is that the more users are registered, the greater the impact will be on aid to countries or governments that need it. We predict our impact can help accelerate post-COVID-19 Pandemic recovery by 2,5%
