Where There’s a Link, There’s a Way

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, there has been a proliferation of websites and portals developed to share resources about the topic. Your challenge is to find innovative ways to present and analyze integrated, real-time information about the environmental factors affecting the spread of COVID-19.

Link-based conversations

Summary

Where there's a link, there's a way. And we believe the way is through conversations. People are talking all the time. Literally, all the time. And about everything. Literally, everything. And as we talk about it, we develop thoughts and insights, and those insights become ideas, and ideas can change the world.Link-based conversations provides hourly geolocated news and conversations pins from the study of a collection on Twitter of the main discussions and informations related to Covid-19. We believe our project would help to generate insights about what is happening within the theme of the pandemic and as we share them on the Google Maps map, this knowledge could be used everywhere

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project introduces a new way to visualize News and conversations related to Covid-19 on Twitter. Users can navigate through our map and click on geolocated pins to read the main News and conversations from that area. These information will be collected and updated hourly.

So, as we know about where the main questions come from, and what are the main doubts, we can build solutions and inputs. And as we share and display this solutions on a map, accessible for all, more people can build solutions and inputs on your own to help his community, neighbourhood. Cause, as Einstein once said,  it's not the answer that enlightens, but the questions. And we know where to find a lot of them.

How We Developed This Project

The internet was built on the principles of collective intelligence. And we believe knowledge should be come from the people and for the people.

So, as we team up, we first brainstormed how we could use this teory to address COVID-19 related issues.  Furthermore, we studied and analised the pain points related to COVID-19 to stablish the project parameters.
Then, we've decided that we wanted to build an intelligence that would analyse the COVID-19 main points of discussion on the web, to generate insights and offer related news and points of discussions. For instance, if in Brazil the main topic of the day  is "How to wash hands properly" our system will suggest  correlated news about this topic and report the theme as debatable point. Using the google maps system we can display the main focus of conversations and insights worldwide.

For that, we used R language to extract and collect data of the main COVID-19 related discussions trends and news on Twitter, and we integrated in the Google Maps system, using an extension (GG Maps).  And using language analyses, social listening and machine learning we  built a huge and integrated notification map.
