The coronavirus is one of the deadliest pandemic ever to strike Mother Earth. Over 300k people have lost their lives and the death toll is still rising. Meanwhile we see government around the world trying their best to curb the spread of the virus by enforcing strict social distancing and lockdown measures. However, we see many citizens violating the social distancing norms, attending mass gatherings and protesting which leads to huge spikes in the virus claim count. The government is finding it hard to monitor if people are maintaining social distancing norms.
But say no more. Our solution uses open-cv and with the help of space agency data, we are able to launch a solution that could curb the virus.
People's lives are at stake and we decided to use technology to battle covid19. Our approach is very comprehensible and simple to use. A camera is used in real time and is installed in public places to capture the motion of the general public.
If people are maintianing social distancing norms i.e they stay at least 6 feet away from each other, a green bounding box is embedded around the people. On the other hand, if people violate social distancing norms, a red bounding box is embedded around the people. Furthermore, an alert is sent immedietely to the nearest local authority to take action and enforce social distancing norms. This solution however has to be implemented immedietly to curb the spread of the virus. The achievement is the fact that we were able to launch this solution into production within a span of 12 hours. On the other hand, one of the challenges we had was to shoot the video for the demo by going outdoors.
