Did I say GlobWave? I think I might have meant CCI SeaState...
Alright! Following careful analysis (2 minutes worth of semi-distracted thought) of the Drifting Islands problem statements in the previous image, some of them are definitely related. We want a platform that is the size of a small ship to drift through the ocean with few or no crew on board for the majority of time. As a result, the following things are desirable: low sea state and small significant wave height (to minimise the risk of damage to the platform), high availability of sunshine (to supply solar panels and recharge batteries), and to ensure that the platform can safely manoeuvre to meet aircraft, ships or UXVs coming to retrieve supplies from it.
To begin with, we're going to try and find datasets that assist in designing solutions for those problems. In determining the sea state and significant wave height so that a Drifting Island can move itself in to calmer seas, there's even an early front runner - GlobWave! Stay tuned for more updates.

In a pandemic scenario, the initial response to the crisis may require that parts of national and international infrastructure are shut down to mitigate the initial spread. Ships at sea may be unable to enter port to embark supplies due to quarantine restrictions.
This can include airports, seaports, manufacturing centres and other infrastructure that comprises the first stages of the traditional supply chain for expeditions operating in remote locations, including the Antarctic, at sea, and in space. Due to their remote locations, there may be narrow windows during which they can re-supply and on which the success or failure of their mission depends.
Drifting Islandsenvisions a network of semi-autonomous supply islands that drift through the oceans equipped with:
i) Pre-loadedstores and supplies;
ii) Re-supply facilities, such as cranes or submersible docks;
iii) Raw materials and manufacturing facilities;
iv) Infrastructure to receive rotary aircraft and UXVs; and
v) Communicationsinfrastructure,
such that an isolated group like an Antarctic expedition or oceangoing science vessel can use their organic capabilities to retrieve supplies and sustain themselves until their regular supply chain is restored.
