This project lessens some problems faced when you're in isolation because it is very interactive. This is a modified version of the famous Flappy Bird game but is space themed. You can play as much as 6 players if you have good internet together and be competitive as much as you can. And there is also an offline version and you can also play with 2 players using Bluetooth if internet is not good in your area. Future development will have different levels with different planets as grounds and will incorporate a "Did you know?" section after every Game Over to be more informative. All of the fun facts will be from NASA's database so it's all going to be accurate. Also there will be an option to create your own character, be an astronaut yourself. Who doesn't want to be an astronaut, right? It's everybody's childhood dream! We're also considering to develop this into a full blown app game to all lovers of space. This is a fairly simple game but has great impact. Let's all explore how amazing space is!
We thought of what would make us less bored in this current isolation situation that we are all experiencing right now. We thought a game would be a great idea - but with a twist - make it as interactive as possible. Plus if it's going to be informational so we won't get bored for a while. This is my team's first ever game - we have a little experience in CS so we want to challenge ourselves to make a game. This is the basic version of the game. Future developments will be added in the future.
For the approach, we cloned a flappy bird repo we found online, tweaked some codes and modified the design. We use python 3.7 and pygames in PyCharm to build the game. We will use data from NASA to supply our "Did you know?" section to provide factual and fun space information.
None of us we're design savvy so we have to make the most of the images that we could find in the internet, we don't own any of the photos, but we would definitely consider in making our personalized characters, background, icon etc. in the future.
In terms of achievements, just making the astronaut move in the correct way was a big deal for us in early process and finishing it before deadline was a great feat us well. We've been playing with it since we finished and it's been pretty fun.
