Social distancing policies enacted the world over during the COVID-19 pandemic have left many people socially isolated. Your challenge is to develop innovative solutions to combat social isolation.

Combating Mental Health effects on Social Isolation

Summary

Our project's goal is to provide resources and research on how to better combat isolation during COVID-19. This was done by surveying Americans, and trying to find who is affected the most in terms of mental health by COVID-19. The results showed that adults ages 18-35 that are unemployed due to COVID-19 said their mental health was negatively affected the most. We hope the website provides resources for those struggling. It is still in the beginning stages. We hope to eventually have a chatroom and forum for others that are struggling to communicate also!

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our group has decided to take a look into mental health effects of COVID-19. We sent out two surveys gaging the mental health of people in the United States during COVID-19. Some questions asked were age, "has your mental health been affected by COVID-19", "Have you lost employment due to COVID-19?", and "rate the effect COVID-19 has had on your mental health on scale of 1-10". We hope this shows insights into possible correlations of unemployment, age and mental health effects of COVID-19. This survey and other research gathered may provide insights into how NASA astronauts feel in isolation.

How We Developed This Project

We developed our project based off NASA's studies on isolation. We want to apply how NASA's research can help those feeling isolated during COVID-19 and vise versa. We used mturk by Amazon for the surveys, Tableau to analyze the surveys, Canva to make infographics and Porkbun for the website and domain.
